Cupcakes go custom!

So many people love and want cupcakes - and, well, why wouldn't they? Cupcakes are lovely, sweet, single serve and self-contained. They need no added packaging (unless you want them boxed), they don't need slicing, and they look amazing on their own, or massed in a group.

But there is also a pre-conception of what a cupcakes should "be" - a paper case full of delicious cake, topped by some (all too often) overly sweet frosting, and a decoration on top. Admitedly, that preconception is largely media-driven - how many non-swirly, custom-decorated cupcakes can you remember seeing in the local media recently? Unfortunately, that pre-conception often stops us in our tracks from considering cupcakes for our events, because they don't "fit" with the overall idea or purpose of the day.

But wait!

That is NOT all cupcakes are cracked up to be! Cupcakes can be customised and decorated much like a large cake can - sure, there are constraints, based on the relative size of a cupcake to a larger, traditional cake, but the principles remain the same.

If you do not want frosting and swirls, you do not need to have frosting and swirls!

If you want a tailored, elegant look to your cupcakes, then that is what we can create for you!

There are so many options other than your "traditional" butter cream, cream cheese or meringue swirls - like ganache, and soft or rolled fondant.

Each of these alternatives lends a much different finished appearance to a cupcake - certainly not the fussy, pretty, girly incantations that swirls and dollops of frosting achieve. With a smooth finished surface, you can elevate the cupcake to arty, classy, elegant, and cool.

Maybe that is what is stopping YOU from considering cupcakes for your next event?

If so, please, feel free to give us a call to discuss how we can customise our cupcakes for YOU.

How long do cupcakes last?

It's amazing - well, to me anyway! - that the No 1 question folks ask is this one.

The answer is pretty easy - normally, until they are all gone!

BUT, there is some science to it, and these are the recommendations I make to my clients:

If your cakes are a classic vanilla, chocolate or other flavoured butter cake, then you have about 3 days in which to enjoy their cakey goodness.

If your cakes are a muddy cake, whether chocolate, raspberry, dulce de leche (caramel) or milk, you have a good 5 days of enjoyment.

Carrot and walnut cake, and our signature dragonfly cakes, will also last you a good 3 - 5 days.

However, if you add cream cheese frosting to any of these cakes, no matter what cake base you have, for safety's sake, please consume within 3 days, and these little lovelies must be refrigerated! (And, as we all know - I hope! - refrigerating a buttercake is not kind to the cakes internal texture, and it will become dry very quickly, so these varieties should best be eaten on the day you receive them)

Happy cupcaking!
